Governance

Accepting crypto donations as a registered charity raises legitimate governance questions. GiveReady takes this seriously. This page provides guidance for trustees and charity administrators.

The Core Question

If your charity accepts USDC donations through a Solana wallet, you need to demonstrate to your regulator that the money flow is transparent, auditable, and properly governed.

For Registered Nonprofits

Regulatory bodies require nonprofits to manage funds responsibly. Key principles: Transparency. The donation flow must be documented. GiveReady provides: a public donation page showing your nonprofit’s verified profile, on-chain transaction records for every donation, and API access to your donation history. Accountability. Multiple trustees should have oversight of the wallet. This is why we recommend Squads multi-sig — it requires multiple signers for any withdrawal, creating the same governance structure as a joint bank account. Audit trail. Every Solana transaction is recorded on-chain permanently. Your nonprofit’s donation history is available at giveready.org/api/donations/your-slug and on any Solana block explorer. Off-ramp documentation. When converting USDC to your local currency, keep records of the conversion rate, date, and destination bank account. Your treasurer should treat this like any other foreign currency donation.
  1. Use Squads multi-sig with at least 2-of-3 trustee approval for withdrawals
  2. Document the wallet in your nonprofit’s financial records as a designated donation receiving account
  3. Inform your board that a new donation channel exists and how it works
  4. Set a conversion schedule — convert USDC to fiat monthly or quarterly, not per-transaction
  5. Keep records of all conversions for your annual accounts

What GiveReady Provides

  • Verified charity profile linked to your Charity Commission registration
  • Public, auditable donation history via API
  • On-chain transparency for all transactions
  • Wallet signature verification during onboarding (proves the charity controls the wallet)

What GiveReady Does Not Do

  • GiveReady does not hold funds. Donations go directly to your wallet.
  • GiveReady does not convert currencies. You manage the USDC-to-fiat process.
  • GiveReady does not provide legal or tax advice. Consult your nonprofit’s legal advisor for jurisdiction-specific guidance.
